A dental abscess is a bacterial infection that can spread rapidly. If you have swelling in your cheek, jaw or neck, throbbing pain, a fever or difficulty swallowing, call us immediately. Do not wait for a GP appointment.

A broken tooth may be painless or agonising and needs prompt attention. Sharp edges can damage your tongue and cheek, exposed dentine is vulnerable to infection, and untreated cracks spread. We can smooth, bond or crown a broken tooth in the same appointment.

A lost filling or crown exposes sensitive dentine and can be extremely painful, especially with hot, cold or sweet food. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can help as a short term measure, but you should see a dentist within 24 hours to protect the tooth and prevent infection.

What is an OPG scan and why do I need it?
An OPG is a panoramic X-ray that gives us a full view of your jaw, teeth, and joints. It’s essential for safe wisdom tooth removal and implant planning.
What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
Act quickly, a knocked-out tooth can sometimes be saved if you reach us within 60 minutes. Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with milk or water, and try to place it back in the socket. If you can’t, store it in milk or your own saliva. Call 020 8686 7401 immediately.
Can you treat dental abscesses out of hours?
Yes. A dental abscess requires prompt treatment, we can drain the abscess and prescribe antibiotics at any hour. If you have swelling affecting your breathing or swallowing, go directly to A&E or call 999. For all other abscesses, call us first.
